Following my previous post about Sukarno, I randomly found this speech by Soekarno which was delivered in 1952 during the launch(?) of Agricultural Faculty of, at that time, University of Indonesia (now known as IPB). Soekarno known as a very good orator intentionally wrote this speech because he wanted the future generation able to read his speech. I was surprised by how he already predicted that we (Indonesia) need to increase our food production, in particular, rice. He suggested to expand the rice field beyond Java but with careful attention on selecting the location of the rice fields. Soekarno knew that in most places in Kalimantan it is almost impossible to create rice fields as the soil character is not suitable to plant one and the forest must be sacrificed which, according to Soekarno, was not an option.
